Uses For Ply Bamboo Around The House
Bamboo products are getting to be more common because bamboo is a fast growing, renewable resource. It can be harvested when plants are 4 to 6 years old instead of up to 30 years of waiting for other trees like oak or pine. Bamboo is a naturally strong material that has been used in building for hundreds of years around the world. Bamboo can be re harvested every three to four years without causing damage to the plant system. Bamboo can solve a lot of the worlds ecological problems if it is planted and used on a larger scale. Ply Bamboo is a plywood made of bamboo that can come in many sizes and forms.
Ply bamboo is made by cutting rectangular strips from bamboo canes then boiling them to remove sugars. The strips are then treated and dried to 6 to 8% moisture content and compressed in layers with E1 level adhesives to bind together and form sheets of plywood. The bamboo can be laid horizontal or vertical or woven. It can be carbonized or fossilized or left natural depending on the look wanted. Carbonizing makes a dark, rich finish by treating the bamboo with water and heat.
Ply Bamboo can be made in 4 foot by 6 foot or 4 foot by 8 foot panels, or it can be made into flooring planks with edges that fit together in a tongue and groove system. The bamboo panels can be 1/4th inch, 1/2 inch or 3/4th inches thick for different uses. It can be left natural for custom staining like Cali Bamboo products, or it can be stained any number of colors. Ply Bamboo can be furniture or builder grade and come in different qualities to match different price points. Bamboo in natural finish goes toward a soft yellow gold color and is very attractive. Ply Bamboo is strong enough to use on stair treads as well as flooring.
